Paternity Testing? What is the Procedure to require a person to take a paternity test?

Ms.Capulet asked:

My brother’s Baby Mama e-mailed me and told me an address my brother needed to show up for a paternity test.
Don’t you have to be legally served?
She also said if he doesn’t show up he will lose his drivers license and be fined 500.00 dollars.

  1. paternity test

why is she telling you? save the email and if your brother is contacted directly by the court then he needs to show up, but an email to you is definately not serving him!!! good luck

No you don’t have to be legally served, it isn’t a court apperance. But if he fails to show up then he will be the father by default and will be ordered to pay child support with or without the results. He may as well go and get it over with. Tell him to take his big boy pill!

If it is not court ordered and properly served he does not have to show up, BUT in some states, state agencies may be able to make him start paying child support if he refuses. Some states just have some screwed up laws and assign to much authority to agencies.

He should go if he wants to be a part of his child’s life. He should just make sure that it is an accredited lab and that the proper chain of custody is followed.

And tell your brother to stop having sex if he isn’t ready for kids.
